A one-eyed cat named Bibi has gone missing during an animal transfer via Larnaca Airport, in what the Movement of Ecologists-Citizens’ Cooperation is describing as a serious and alarming incident — and not the first of its kind.
Bibi, a male cat blind in one eye, was travelling on 28 March from Larnaca to a destination abroad with a stopover in Athens. Two cats were placed in an IATA-approved crate that was fully secured and checked before disembarkation, with additional measures taken to prevent any possibility of escape. When the shipment arrived at its final destination, only one cat was in the crate.
The most likely locations for the disappearance are Larnaca Airport or Athens Airport. The Movement of Ecologists said searches are already under way, which it described as a positive development, and called on all involved bodies to investigate immediately and help locate Bibi. Anyone who has seen the cat at Larnaca Airport is asked to make contact immediately.
The Movement pointed out that this is not an isolated case. In September 2025, a cat named Mika went missing at Larnaca Airport under similar circumstances and was found nine days later. Anthi Mouzouri, Coordinator of the Movement’s Animal Action Group, said it was unacceptable for such incidents to keep recurring, putting the lives of animals being transported under the responsibility of the relevant services and companies at direct risk.
The Movement expressed strong hope that Bibi would be found.
