More than 200 gather in Larnaca as European Capital of Culture programme moves into new phase

More than 200 people gathered in Larnaca last weekend for the first Co-Creators Assembly of the Larnaca 2030 European Capital of Culture programme.

The two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Agios Georgios Lyceum, brought together more than 120 co-creators — artists, groups, organisations and citizens — responding to an open call from Larnaca 2030 to participate in shaping the city’s cultural future.

The assembly opened with remarks from Peter Ashdjian, Secretary of the Larnaca 2030 organisation, Giorgos Papageorgiou, Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Deputy Mayor Iasonas Iasonidis and Andreas Karakatsanis, Director General of the organisation.

Presentations of projects from the artistic programme provided a starting point for deeper discussion of the city’s vision, with open conversations and networking sessions generating new connections and collaborations. The format was designed not merely to present the existing programme but to open it up for active input and reinterpretation by participants.

Larnaca 2030 said the event confirmed that the path towards the European Capital of Culture title is already a collective process in full motion rather than an abstract promise.
