The Agia Marina Chrysochous dam became the third small reservoir in the Paphos district to overflow on Saturday, following a period of persistent heavy rainfall.
The overflow had been expected since Thursday, when water levels reached 99% capacity. It follows similar overflows at the Pomos and Argaka dams earlier this week.
Agia Marina Chrysochous is the smallest dam in the province, with a total capacity of just 300,000 cubic metres. Its primary function is the irrigation of permanent crops in the surrounding area.
The Chrysochou region also hosts Cyprus’s third-largest reservoir, the Evretou dam. While currently at 38% capacity, its levels are significantly higher than the 25% recorded during the same period last year.
