ADHD affects around 7% of children and 3% of adults in Cyprus, the ADHD Association Cyprus has said, as it joins a Ministry of Health campaign calling on the public to talk more openly about the neurodevelopmental disorder.
The campaign — “Let’s Talk Openly about ADHD” — is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Health, the ADHD Association Cyprus and the Press and Information Office, aimed at raising public awareness and reducing stigma around the condition.
People with ADHD may struggle to concentrate, are easily distracted and can display inattention, hyperactivity and impulsive behaviour, the Association said.
The condition cannot be cured, but is manageable through understanding, appropriate support and guidance from specialist professionals.
“An inclusive society is not simply a slogan. It is the result of meaningful collaboration between organisations that contribute to shaping a new culture of understanding, acceptance and support,” the announcement concluded.
