Cyprus Fire Service was placed on heightened alert over the past 24 hours as heavy rainfall swept across the island, responding to a total of 25 incidents, spokesman Andreas Kettis said.
Of these, five involved fires, 19 were specialist assistance calls, and one was a false alarm, Kettis said in a post on X.
Ten incidents were directly weather-related, primarily involving fallen trees and water pumping operations. In Nicosia, crews responded to three calls — two fallen trees and one flooded basement.
Limassol district recorded four incidents, comprising two fallen trees and two water pumping operations at flooded premises. Larnaca fire stations attended one fallen tree call in Pyla, while Paphos district saw two basement flooding incidents requiring pumping.
The Fire Service said it remained on standby and urged the public to exercise caution in the prevailing weather conditions.
