Larnaca and Famagusta dams well below last year’s levels, water authority figures show

Water inflows into dams in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts remain significantly below last year’s levels, according to measurements taken on Friday by the Water Development Department.

Kouris — sorry, Kalavasos dam, which has a capacity of 17.1 million cubic metres, recorded an inflow of 0.019 million cubic metres in the past 24 hours, bringing the total since 1 October 2025 to 0.882 million cubic metres. Current storage stands at 1.366 million cubic metres, equivalent to 8% capacity — compared with 4.726 million cubic metres, or 27.6%, at the same point last year.

Lefkara dam, with a capacity of 13.85 million cubic metres, recorded an inflow of 0.016 million cubic metres over the same period, with total inflows since October reaching 0.527 million cubic metres. Storage stands at 1.5 million cubic metres, or 10.8% capacity, against 4.09 million cubic metres and 29.5% a year ago.

Dipotamos dam, capacity 15.5 million cubic metres, recorded 0.024 million cubic metres in the past 24 hours, with total inflows since October at 1.281 million cubic metres. Current storage is 3.87 million cubic metres, or 25% capacity, down from 5.541 million cubic metres and 35.7% at the same time last year.

Achna dam in the free areas of the Famagusta district, capacity 6.8 million cubic metres, recorded no inflow in the past 24 hours or since 1 October 2025. Storage stands at just 0.142 million cubic metres — 2.1% capacity — against 1.412 million cubic metres and 20.8% a year ago.
