Two secondary school pupils in Limassol have received suspended sentences after admitting to using artificial intelligence applications to create and distribute pornographic images depicting their classmates and a teacher.
The Limassol Three-Member Juvenile Court yesterday handed one of the minors a 12-month sentence and the other a nine-month sentence, both suspended for three years.
The court also imposed supervision by a probation officer and 120 hours of unpaid community service on each defendant.
The case was reported to police in November 2025. The two pupils admitted charges of producing and distributing pornographic material, including child pornography.
According to the facts of the case, they used an AI application to generate pornographic images by superimposing the faces of classmates and a teacher onto explicit content.
The images were circulated in a student group chat, prompting the school’s headteacher to notify police immediately.
The case is the second of its kind to come before the courts in Cyprus. In October 2024, a 14-year-old pupil appeared before the Dhekelia Court after circulating digitally manipulated images of female classmates at a secondary school in the Larnaca district.
That case also involved the school authorities and the British Bases Police. The pupil was found guilty following an admission and received a conditional warning, with the case liable to be reopened if the offence is repeated within three years.
