Law Office orders rape case against suspended Paphos mayor Phedon Phedonos

The Law Office has instructed police to register a rape case against suspended Paphos mayor Phedon Phedonos, with a charge sheet carrying four counts expected to be filed shortly.

The development was first reported by OMEGA-LIVE and confirmed to philenews by a competent official.

According to initial information, the charge sheet will include the felonies of rape and indecent assault. Reports also suggest a third charge of administering a stupefying substance with intent to commit a felony or misdemeanour, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

If the reported charges are borne out, Phedonos would face trial before a criminal court on offences carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The charge of administering a stupefying substance with intent carries a life term under the Criminal Code.

The alleged rape is reported to have taken place around 2014. The investigation into Phedonos is the reason he was suspended from his mayoral duties under existing legislation.
