Larnaca court jails US man for 12 years over 15kg cannabis import case

The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court has sentenced a 35-year-old man from the United States to 12 years in prison for importing 15kg of cannabis.

The 35-year-old was found guilty following his own admission to charges of importing drugs, supplying drugs to other people and impersonation.

The defendant travelled from the United States to Cyprus to collect a package containing drugs. The drug squad YKAN was alerted on May 19, 2025, when a box arrived at a private company in Larnaca containing 30 packages of cannabis weighing about 15kg. The defendant was listed as the recipient and was called to collect it.

The box was handed over to him on May 25, and when he received it, YKAN officers moved in and arrested him.

In his statement, the 35-year-old said he had arrived in Cyprus to collect packages containing drugs and deliver them to people unknown to him in return for payment of 1,000 euros for each delivery.

He also claimed that he had been facing financial problems and had therefore agreed to act as an intermediary.
