Fire Service handles 38 weather-related incidents across Cyprus in 24 hours

The Fire Service responded to 38 incidents across Cyprus in the past 24 hours because of severe weather, mainly strong winds.

Most of the incidents were recorded in the Larnaca district, where fire stations in Larnaca, Livadia, Kiti, Governor’s Beach and Ora responded to 16 calls. Seven involved fallen or displaced trees, one involved a displaced water tank, one the movement of solar system panels, two the movement of signs and one a standby response for EAC cables. Damage to vehicles from falling trees was also reported.

In Limassol, fire stations in Limassol, Agios Tychonas and Dora responded to nine incidents. Seven involved fallen or displaced trees, while two were linked to displaced metal sheeting. Vehicle damage from falling trees was also reported there.

In the Famagusta district, five incidents were recorded, with responses from the fire stations in Protaras, Paralimni, Deryneia and Xylofagou. One case involved a fallen or displaced tree, one a dangerous scaffold and two involved displaced restaurant or café signs.

In Paphos, four incidents were recorded by fire stations in Paphos, Agia Marina, Pomos and Polis Chrysochous. Three involved fallen or displaced trees, while one involved a fallen or displaced shelter. Damage to vehicles from falling trees was also reported there.

Another four incidents were recorded in Nicosia, where city fire stations were called out exclusively to deal with fallen or displaced trees.
