Cyprus’s parliament passed legislation governing the operation of radiology diagnostic centres on Thursday, adopting the Health Ministry’s position that a qualified radiologist must be physically present during imaging examinations.
Amendments prepared in previous days on the specific issue were withdrawn.
In their place, an amendment tabled jointly by DISY, AKEL, ELAM and DIPA was approved, prohibiting the examination of animals at centres serving humans.
Under the adopted amendment, animals are to be examined at specialist centres.
Intense inter-party consultations over amendments and the possibility of a further postponement continued throughout the day. When the bill came before the plenary, a motion for another postponement was raised but was not accepted.
