Cyprus’ House of Representatives is introducing a bill to extend the deadline for vehicle licence renewals after website issues led to delays for many users. The problem, which surfaced on the last day for renewals, was caused by technical difficulties on the Department of Road Transport’s website. Several citizens reported being unable to renew their licences before the deadline despite attempts.
The final day for renewals was Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at midnight. After this date, late renewals will incur a surcharge, comprising a €10 fee plus 10% of the annual licence fee.
According to sources, the Parliamentary Committee on Transport is expected to fast-track the bill to the plenary session today to allow for an extension. The renewal deadline is set by law, and an extension can only be granted through a legislative amendment. The proposed bill may include retroactive provisions to avoid penalties for those who missed the deadline.
