Cyprus waives residency deadlines for foreign nationals caught abroad by Middle East war

Non-EU nationals who have been unable to return to Cyprus due to the aviation disruption caused by the US-led war against Iran will have their residency documents and entry visas automatically extended until 30 April 2026, the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection announced.

The emergency measures, introduced by order of the Deputy Minister, apply from 1 March 2026 and cover three categories of document holders caught outside the Republic since the crisis began.

Those holding valid residency permits may re-enter Cyprus on existing documents until 30 April, provided their three-month absence period began after 28 February 2026. The same terms apply to those carrying a receipt for a pending residency renewal application, as long as the application remains under review or has been approved.

A third measure covers holders of entry permits with an original latest-entry date between 1 and 31 March 2026. They may now enter Cyprus until 30 April regardless of that deadline — giving affected individuals at least one additional month to return.

The ministry said the measures were justified by a generalised situation of force majeure not attributable to those affected, and that it would reassess whether to extend them further depending on conditions on the ground.
