Nurses’ union condemns assault on colleague at Limassol hospital emergency unit

The General Nursing Staff Branch of the PASYDY union has condemned a new incident of violence reported at the accident and emergency department of Limassol General Hospital.

In a statement, the union said the incident took place on Sunday morning and expressed support and solidarity with the nurse who was attacked, as well as with all staff working at the emergency department.

The union said that once again, healthcare professionals had come under attack while carrying out their duties, describing the incidents as unacceptable and stressing that such behaviour should not be tolerated.

PASYDY called on the State Health Services Organisation and the police to investigate the incident immediately.

It also asked the authorities to determine whether agreed measures on policing and security at emergency departments had been implemented in practice.

The union said protecting healthcare professionals is a non-negotiable priority and an obligation of the state.

It also called for the full implementation of existing legislation in cases of violence against healthcare workers so that those responsible face the penalties provided by law.
