Police remain in full operational readiness, spokesperson Vyron Vyronos said, noting that the force continues to implement its operational plan with preventive measures extending across both land and sea.
“We are on constant alert,” he stated.
Responding to questions regarding preparedness and the measures being taken, Vyronos said police remain at full operational readiness, with reinforced security measures at the Republic’s critical infrastructure and other locations considered high risk.
The measures also extend to the maritime areas of the Republic of Cyprus. He said they are preventive in nature and aimed at deterring any potential threat.
There is close cooperation with all state services, the authorities of the British Bases and other cooperating agencies, with the primary priority being the protection of citizens and the safeguarding of public safety, he added.
Asked about public communication channels, Vyronos said emergency numbers are publicly available and that 112 and 199 should be used in cases where lives are at risk. Members of the public may also call 1460 if another existing telephone line does not respond.
In response to a question about a police presence in the Akrotiri area, he confirmed that patrols are operating in the area, with actions carried out in coordination with other services, including Civil Defence.
