Nicosia Municipality has urged residents to remain calm and follow only official government announcements as it monitors developments in the region.
In a statement, the municipality directed residents to the Civil Defence Cyprus SAFECY platform for information on the location of the nearest shelter. The app is available on Android at bit.ly/3NdVGih and on iOS at https://apple.co/4l4h6el.
The municipality said it remains in continuous communication with the competent authorities and will keep the public informed of any further developments.
The statement comes following an Iranian drone strike on RAF Akrotiri’s runway overnight and the interception of two further drones heading for the base on Monday afternoon. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis insisted Cyprus itself was not a target, saying the strikes were directed at the British Bases.
