Rain and possible snowfall are forecast across Cyprus starting Wednesday, with temperatures set to fall below seasonal averages by Friday.
The weather early in the morning will be mostly clear, with locally increased cloud in western areas. However, conditions will gradually turn partly cloudy to mainly cloudy, bringing isolated showers first in the west and later spreading to other areas.
Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains.
Winds will be mainly south-westerly to westerly, initially light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. In the south-east, winds may temporarily reach 5 to 6 Beaufort in the afternoon.
The sea will be slight to moderate, later becoming locally rough.
Temperatures are expected to reach around 20C inland and along the south-east and east coasts, about 19C along the rest of the coast, and around 7C in the higher mountains.
On Wednesday night, local showers are expected, with a chance of an isolated thunderstorm. Conditions are forecast to ease significantly by morning. Snow is expected in the higher mountains.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, mainly clear spells will alternate with periods of increased cloud, with a chance of isolated showers and occasional light snowfall in the mountains. The area will be affected by a relatively cold northerly air current.
Temperatures will drop noticeably by Friday to below average for the season, before a slight rise on Saturday.
