Firefighters were mobilised in Limassol on Green Monday after a fire broke out in an abandoned building near Leontiou Street.
Plumes of thick smoke were visible from across the city, prompting nearby residents to alert authorities at midday. Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis said the blaze has been contained within the building, though crews are still working to fully extinguish it due to a large volume of flammable materials inside.
Five fire engines responded to the scene, and off-duty personnel were called back to assist with the operation. Kettis confirmed that the building contained a collection of vintage mechanical games, specifically pinball machines.
Initial reports indicate the building was uninhabited and there are no reports of anyone trapped inside. While the fire spread throughout the entire structure, crews successfully focused on protecting adjacent properties.
The cause of the fire will be investigated once the site is fully cooled.
