Foot-and-mouth disease has now been detected in six livestock units, according to the Veterinary Services.
The Director of the Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipis, announced shortly after 6 pm on Sunday that positive cases had been identified in three additional farms, which, according to Philenews, are located in Livadia.
He said a nationwide ban on the movement of animals — including transfers to slaughterhouses — has already been decided as part of measures to contain the spread of the disease.
At the same time, he urged livestock farmers to strictly adhere to the prescribed measures, stressing that compliance is crucial to safeguarding animal stock and bringing the situation under control.
