Police arrest 10 in overnight crime crackdown across Cyprus

Police stepped up patrols across Cyprus overnight, targeting key urban areas in a bid to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and boost public safety.

Officers arrested 10 people on offences including illegal stay, drug possession, prohibited immigrant status, assault causing actual bodily harm, impersonation and disobeying a court order.

During the operations, police stopped and checked 892 drivers and passengers.

Officers also carried out 39 inspections of premises to tackle offending behaviour, resulting in 10 reports.

Traffic checks led to 120 reports for various road offences and uncovered 17 cases under investigation for traffic violations.

Among the reports, 51 drivers were booked for drink-driving and 40 for speeding.

Police impounded 20 vehicles as part of the investigations.

Coordinated policing operations to prevent and suppress crime continue daily, with an increased presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action aimed at protecting the public and safeguarding public order.
