The University of Cyprus will take delivery of its long-awaited Medical School building at the end of this month, as construction works are due to finish on 28 February, Vice Rector Ioannis Giapintzakis said.
Speaking before the House Education Committee during discussion of the university’s 2026 budget, Giapintzakis said the contractor would complete the project on 28 February. The university plans to hold the official opening of the Medical School on 24 March.
The building has been the subject of public discussion in recent years.
Giapintzakis also updated MPs on other projects, saying works on the Biological Sciences building are nearing completion. Teaching Facilities 3 (CHOD3) have already been completed and are expected to be inaugurated in May or June.
From the floor of the Education Committee, the university also called on the Ministry of Finance to approve the start of construction of four Schools: the Faculty of Philosophy, the School of Social Sciences, the School of Humanities and the Graduate School.
These Schools are currently without permanent premises and are operating from rented spaces.
