EAC pole cables break off onto vehicle as power cuts hit multiple areas

An EAC pole broke off and cables fell onto a vehicle, whilst power cuts are affecting multiple areas and problems are being recorded in the overhead network.

A video that appeared on social media shows a vehicle parked on a road in Souni after the fall of an EAC pole, with cables appearing to have fallen onto the car.

An EAC crew attended the scene to disentangle the vehicle from the cables, replace the pole and restore electricity. So far, there is no information about injuries.

According to information from the EAC, there is a medium-voltage fault in Nicosia district affecting the communities of Dali and Nisou.

In Larnaca district, the communities of Xylotymbou and Ormideia are affected.

Power supply problems are also being recorded across Cyprus, mainly in the overhead network, due to weather conditions.

Rain, dense fog and strong winds are affecting roads across Cyprus, creating travel difficulties and increased risks for drivers.

Weather conditions are limiting visibility in several areas, whilst roads are slippery, police said.

The severe weather is also causing power supply problems, mainly in the overhead network, with electricity cuts recorded in various areas of the island. The relevant authorities are on standby to restore faults and are calling on the public to exercise increased caution.

Fog is currently being observed on the Larnaca-Famagusta motorway, at the height of Pyla village, as a result of which visibility is limited.

Police are calling on drivers to be particularly careful, to drive at low speeds, to maintain safe distances from vehicles ahead and to have their headlights on.
