The government has approved legislation allowing police to tap phones in the fight against organised crime.
The Cabinet backed the bill on Friday, which permits telephone conversation monitoring under strict conditions.
President Nikos Christodoulides spoke on the issue before the Cabinet meeting.
The bill will go straight to Parliament for a vote to give law enforcement this tool in combating organised crime.
