Despite the rainy weather, Limassol threw itself into Tsiknopempti celebrations on Thursday, with the first souvla lighting ceremonially to mark the start of carnival season.
The festivities began early Thursday morning with the traditional “First Souvla” at the Lemesos Media Group offices, creating a festive atmosphere from the first hours. The smell of charcoal filled the area whilst smiles and banter set the tone for the day.
Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis attended the event, standing alongside organisers and residents to kick off the traditional celebrations. People in carnival costumes were spotted in the crowd, adding colour and energy to the scene.
The rainy conditions haven’t dampened spirits, with Limassol residents proving once again that their mood isn’t affected by the weather.
At 10:00, carnival celebrations with music and treats for the public continue outside Eurobank on Gladstone Street and outside Bank of Cyprus on Agiou Andreou Street, opposite Agia Napa church, as the city moves into full carnival mode.
