The Cyprus government will strengthen Agia Skepi charity programmes with €1.32 million so they can continue serving citizens in need, President Nikos Christodoulides said.
Christodoulides received Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, who chairs the charity’s board, and an Agia Skepi delegation at the Presidential Palace.
“I would like to use this opportunity to thank you publicly on behalf of all governments, on behalf of the state, for the unique work done at Agia Skepi,” the president said. “Essentially you carry out the work that the state should offer our society.”
The work is multifaceted and touches on health, the welfare state, education and all areas of governance, according to Christodoulides.

“For this reason, the Cabinet decided to establish an annual grant of one million 320 thousand euros, so that you continue to offer and strengthen the programmes that Agia Skepi provides to our fellow citizens who face challenges,” he said.
Metropolitan Athanasios said Agia Skepi drug rehabilitation centres has proven itself over 30 years but struggles without financial support.
“We thank you personally and the government for this grant, because with it we will be able to work better,” the metropolitan said. Many people now work at the charity and demand keeps increasing, he said, adding that Agia Skepi operates at many levels.
