Customs officers at Paphos Airport arrested two British nationals on Monday after finding 336 boxes of untaxed cigarettes in their luggage bound for Manchester.
Officers checked the luggage of the two departing passengers, aged 30 and 22, on 2 February 2026 after evaluating information, authorities said.
In the four pieces of luggage belonging to the two passengers, officers found a total of 336 boxes containing 200 cigarettes each—168 boxes in two pieces of luggage per passenger.
The packaging lacked health warning markings in Greek and Turkish, indicating the cigarettes were duty-free and untaxed.
The two passengers were arrested for flagrant offences and their luggage and contents were confiscated.
On Tuesday, the passengers were brought before Paphos District Court, which issued a four-day detention order to facilitate the investigative work undertaken by Paphos Customs.
