Cyprus police arrested nine people and booked scores of motorists during a series of targeted overnight operations aimed at curbing serious crime and public disorder.
The arrests included one individual for domestic violence and another for public intoxication and assaulting police officers. Officers also detained one person for drug possession, three for remaining illegally in the Republic, and three individuals wanted on outstanding warrants for unpaid fines.
During the sweep, police stopped 458 vehicles and conducted 569 identity checks on passengers. Officers also inspected 47 business premises as part of a broader push to suppress delinquent behaviour in urban centres.
Traffic checks resulted in 140 citations for various offences. Of these, 29 drivers were booked for drink-driving, while 40 additional traffic cases remain under investigation. Police confirmed that 12 vehicles were seized during the operation.
The police force stated that the increased presence and high-visibility patrols across all districts are part of an ongoing plan to boost public safety and deter criminal activity.
