A 58-year-old man goes on trial today for the premeditated murder of 26-year-old Alexandros Antoniou, who was killed outside a Konia kiosk on 19 November 2025 in an attack captured on CCTV.
The trial begins this morning at the Criminal Court sitting in Paphos. The indictment was filed at Paphos District Court on 5 December by the prosecuting authority after investigations were completed and the Law Office gave the green light.
Police presented shocking details when they brought the 58-year-old to court, describing the incident as unprecedented in brutality. The defendant admitted involvement in Antoniou’s killing but referred to it as an unplanned action and “bad hour,” and reportedly expressed regret when questioned about the tragic outcome.
CCTV footage from the kiosk’s exterior shows at 6.16 pm on that day, the victim parking his vehicle outside the kiosk’s main frontage and remaining in the driver’s seat speaking on his mobile.
Four minutes later, a man on foot appears approaching the vehicle, forcibly opens the driver’s door and grabs the victim by his right shoulder.
The victim tried to resist and the man appears to strike him in the neck with an object held in his hand, the police spokesman told the court.
The footage then shows the attacker going to the rear of the kiosk and washing his hands at an external sink. At the same time, the victim exited the vehicle injured, entered the kiosk entrance and collapsed on the ground.
The attacker is seen entering through the back door into the kiosk after washing his hands, seeing the blood-covered victim, and leaving the scene on foot.
The kiosk employee, when called to police, recognised the 58-year-old suspect as the person appearing to commit these acts, the police spokesman announced.
Police stated today they hold a second written testimony from a person at the scene who saw the alleged perpetrator tell the victim he had warned him not to bother his daughter, and the 26-year-old reply that he wasn’t bothering her.
The witness also testified hearing the alleged perpetrator urge the young man to go quickly to hospital because he was losing much blood, according to the 58-year-old’s expression.
A third testimony police hold is from the person the victim was speaking to on his mobile at the time. The witness testified that during their conversation, he heard a male voice threatening the 26-year-old that if he bothered his daughter again, he would kill him.
