A 30-year-old man suspected of attempting to murder a 31-year-old in Larnaca last Friday has been “arrested” in the occupied areas and handed over to authorities, police said.
Turkish Cypriot media reported the suspect was “arrested” by occupation authorities in an area near occupied Morphou.
Police said they acted through the relevant bi-communal committee and the suspect was handed over at Larnaca district police headquarters and detained. His abandoned vehicle was found in a Famagusta district village.
The suspect is expected to appear before Larnaca District Court tomorrow for a remand hearing.
Police received information around 5.15 pm on Friday about an injured person on a city street. Officers found the victim with a wound to their abdomen. The injured man was taken to Larnaca General Hospital where he underwent surgery and was kept for treatment.
No blood traces were found where the victim was discovered, police said. Bloodstained flat keys were found, which appeared to have fallen from their clothing.
Small blood spots were found on the stairwell of a nearby block of flats. A court search warrant was issued based on the keys and the number written on them.
Inside the flat, the drug squad found a quantity of crystalline substance with a total gross weight of 6.5 grammes, a bottle with traces of crystalline substance, a grinder with traces of cannabis, a plastic container with traces of white powder, syringes, two precision scales and €300 in cash.
No blood traces were found inside the flat. Police established the attacker stabbed the victim near the stairwell of the block of flats.
