Police launched a manhunt in Larnaca after a 31-year-old man was found wounded on a pavement outside a shop in the city centre on Friday afternoon.
The victim was discovered at 5pm with a wound to his abdomen, possibly from a knife. He was taken to the accident and emergency department at Larnaca General Hospital.
Police said the victim was taken into surgery and his condition is described as serious.
Before going into surgery, the victim told police a vehicle stopped, a person got out, drew a knife and wounded him in the abdomen, according to investigators. However, Larnaca Police are investigating other information in relation to the case.
Authorities are trying to locate the suspected perpetrator.
No blood pools were found at the scene where the victim was discovered, and the assessment is that the attack happened elsewhere.
