Thousands left without electricity as grid fault disrupts Nicosia

A significant fault in the electricity transmission system has left multiple districts across Nicosia without power since shortly after 13:00 on Friday.

The outage, which was first reported following a failure in the main grid infrastructure, has primarily affected the western and central suburbs of the capital.

Data from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) mobile application indicates that the worst-affected areas include Agios Dometios, Engomi, and Strovolos, with unconfirmed reports of secondary blackouts reaching as far as Lakatamia.

EAC technical teams were deployed immediately to the affected transmission nodes to isolate the fault and restore supply. According to the latest estimates provided by the Authority, electricity is expected to be restored in Engomi by 14:28, while residents in Agios Dometios face a longer wait, with a projected restoration time of 15:00. The situation in Strovolos remains more complex, as the EAC has yet to provide a definitive timeline for the full recovery of the local network.
