Businessman among 10 held after Larnaca police raid targets organised crime

Police in Larnaca arrested a prominent businessman and nine others as part of an investigation into Saturday’s shooting and brawl just metres from the police headquarters.

Police searched the businessman’s home in Larnaca district as part of a major operation that remains underway, according to sources.

Some of those arrested have previous dealings with police, sources said. More arrests are possible as the operation continues.

Not all arrests relate to Saturday’s shooting. Most involve suspected organised crime offences unrelated to the city centre incident, philenews has learnt.

Six people remain in custody over the shooting itself: five foreign nationals and a 48-year-old Cypriot who is believed to lead the group.

The complainant in the shooting case said he was asked for €7,000 and then €1,000 monthly for protection.
