The Department of Meteorology has issued a formal warning for “very strong” to “near-gale” winds affecting Cyprus’s coastline, as a volatile weather system brings an end to the recent cold snap.
Valid until 21:00 on Wednesday, the warning alerts the public to northeast to southeast winds reaching six Beaufort, with intermittent gusts peaking at seven Beaufort. The alert primarily targets the western, northern, and local southern coastal districts, where sea conditions are expected to transition rapidly from rough to locally wavy.
The strengthening wind speeds coincide with the arrival of sparse dust in the atmosphere, marking the shift from the stagnant cold air mass that saw temperatures plummet to minus eight degrees earlier this week.
Cloud cover is expected to thicken throughout the evening, with mid and high-level clouds likely to produce isolated showers as the night progresses.
