Cyprus’s blood supply has fallen, prompting the Health Ministry to sound the alarm over persistently high demand.
Fewer people are donating blood whilst hospitals need more transfusions and blood products – red blood cells, plasma and platelets – for treatments, surgeries and emergencies, the ministry said today. The imbalance is affecting blood sufficiency.
The ministry urged anyone who meets donor requirements and is healthy to visit blood donation centres to boost stocks.
Donations are essential for meeting patient needs, the ministry stressed.
