Armed man threatens Larnaca residents hours after axe-and-gun rampage

An armed man threatened residents in Larnaca’s Mackenzie area on Sunday night after an attempted car break-in went wrong—the second armed incident to hit the city in 24 hours.

The confrontation erupted at 9pm on Oum Haram Street when a vehicle owner spotted an unknown man trying to break into his parked car and began shouting. Other residents rushed to the scene.

The suspect drew what appeared to be a pistol and threatened those gathering around him, police said. He then vanished into the darkness.

Police are hunting the man following the incident, which came just one day after 20 men armed with axes, crowbars and a pistol clashed in central Larnaca in broad daylight, firing shots outside a fast-food restaurant 100 metres from police headquarters.
