Ayia Napa jewellery thieves steal €1m in diamonds

Burglars who hit an Ayia Napa jewellery shop on Monday stole over €1 million in diamond jewellery—five times the initial estimate—after smashing a display case in a lightning raid captured on CCTV.

Police were alerted at 4am when the shop manager reported the alarm had been triggered. Evidence suggests three perpetrators gained entry through a sliding door before breaking the glass display case.

CCTV footage shows the thieves grabbed their haul in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Initial estimates put the stolen jewellery at €200,000, but investigators determined the burglars targeted expensive diamond pieces worth over €1 million.

Famagusta Police attended the scene, conducted examinations and collected evidence.

Separately in Paralimni, Russian homeowners who live permanently in Cyprus discovered their house had been burgled between 17-18 January, with €100,000 in cash stolen.

Famagusta Police found no signs of forced entry at the main entrances and are investigating whether the perpetrators gained access through the garage. Police are seeking witness accounts from neighbours and CCTV footage that may have recorded the burglars’ movements.
