Video obtained by philenews has captured an armed man drawing a pistol and aiming it at residents in Larnaca’s Mackenzie area on Sunday night—the second gun threat to hit the city in 24 hours.
The footage shows the moment an unknown man pulled the weapon and pointed it at another person on Oum Haram Street at 9pm, with additional people standing behind the target outside the camera frame. As the person being aimed at tried to move towards him, the gunman shouted in Cypriot Greek: “Φύε, φύε τωρά” (Go, go now).
The confrontation began when the suspect attempted to break into a parked vehicle, police said. The owner spotted him and began shouting, drawing other residents to the scene. What followed was captured in the philenews video.
The armed threat came armed for what began as a routine car break-in. The identity of the suspect remains unknown, and police are searching for him.
Sunday’s incident followed Saturday’s violence in central Larnaca, when 20 men armed with axes, crowbars and a pistol clashed in broad daylight, firing shots outside a fast-food restaurant 100 metres from police headquarters.
