Police will impose traffic restrictions and parking bans in central Nicosia on Wednesday ahead of the opening ceremony of Cyprus’s EU Council Presidency.
The ceremony will take place at 18:30 at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOK) building, police said.
Parking will be banned on Dimostheni Severi, Gr. Afxentiou, Michail Karaoli, Lord Byron, Kosti Palama, Omirou, Anastasiou Leventi, Evagoras, Diagoras and Vasileos Pavlou streets.
Nicosia Municipality will also prohibit parking of private vehicles throughout the day in the two underground car parks at the old GSP stadium.
From 14:30, roads around the THOK area will be closed and access will be fully controlled. Drivers are urged to comply with closures and traffic arrangements and follow instructions from officers on duty.
A Transport Minister order (K.D.P. 03/2026) strictly prohibits the use of drones in the wider THOK area and the Conference Centre. The coordinates of the restricted zone are listed in the order. The ban remains in effect throughout the entire presidency period.
