Paphos winter swimmers brave the elements to welcome 2026 at sea

Dozens of winter swimmers plunged into the waters of Kato Paphos Municipal Baths this morning to ring in the New Year with a unique aquatic celebration. Despite the deteriorating weather conditions, the group brought festive cheer directly into the sea, complete with a floating Christmas tree, holiday decorations, and swimmers in full festive costume.

The morning began with carols sung from the water before the celebrations moved to dry land for a traditional New Year’s party. Swimmers shared festive treats and drinks to the sound of music, marking their second major event of the season following their Christmas Day gathering.

The group concluded the festivities by cutting the traditional “Vasilopita” cake, formally pledging to return for Christmas 2026 and New Year’s 2027. Regardless of the holiday schedule, members vowed to maintain their daily morning swim throughout the year, “come rain or snow.”
