Gales up to Beaufort force 7 lash the island today as a low-pressure system dominates the area. Severe winds, peaking at “σφοδροί” (force 7) locally, will batter coasts and inland areas before gradually losing strength by late afternoon.
Rain and isolated thunderstorms will strike the west, north, and mountains under heavy cloud cover. Snow or sleet will fall across the highest peaks of the Troodos range and local high-altitude spots.
Heavy seas will peak at “πολύ κυματώδης” (very rough) along northern and western coastlines. Temperatures will struggle to reach 14°C inland, hitting 17°C on the coast and just 3°C in the high mountains.
Frost will grip the mountains and sheltered inland plains tonight as temperatures plunge. Thermometers will drop to 3°C inland and -2°C in the high peaks. Northwesterly winds will ease to moderate “3 με 4 Μποφόρ” by the early hours.
Clearer skies return on Friday and Saturday, though temperatures will dip below seasonal averages. Conditions remain dry through Sunday with a gradual temperature rise expected by the end of the weekend.
