Footfall at shops during the holidays and the final days before the New Year reached satisfactory levels and performed better than in previous years, according to retailers.
Stefanos Koursaris, general secretary of POVEK, told CNA the market moved at satisfactory levels mainly for essential goods.
The weather change and temperature drop helped other sectors, namely clothing and footwear, he said. Some consumers may now be waiting to enter the sales period before making other purchases, he added.
The festive atmosphere, Cypriot mentality and Christmas and New Year dining created an atmosphere that helped purchases, Koursaris said.
Asked whether high prices affected the market, he said that during festive periods, high prices come second, and everyone tries to meet their family’s needs.
High prices certainly exist, and some people made conservative purchases, he acknowledged, but compared to other years, it was a good and satisfactory year.
