Police have been searching a house in Paralimni since Wednesday morning after shots were fired at the property linked to a businessman who was targeted in two other criminal acts over the summer.
The shooting occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday whilst the owners were inside the house, but they did not report it to the police, who received information about the attack hours later.
Police were informed at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday that unknown persons had fired shots at a house in Paralimni related to someone in the businessman’s close circle.
CID Famagusta members rushed to the scene and found the shots had struck the external wall of the house’s façade. The scene was cordoned off, and searches began at first light, conducted by CID Famagusta and the Criminal Investigation Service of Police Headquarters.
On 26 July, a defensive hand grenade was found at the businessman’s busy premises in Ayia Napa following warning calls to police and a television station. The venue, which was packed with people, was evacuated.
On 17 August, unknown persons warned again about an explosive device at the same venue. It was evacuated and searched but nothing was found. The perpetrators were not found, but the motive was believed to be related to financial differences.
CID Famagusta investigators are examining whether the shooting is connected to the summer criminal acts. They are seeking statements from neighbours and CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.
