Drivers smash into guardrails as storms lash Cyprus highways

Two separate accidents snarled traffic on Cyprus motorways this afternoon after drivers lost control in treacherous weather and ploughed into safety barriers.

Police report that the first crash occurred on the Nicosia–Larnaca highway near Athienou. The vehicle spun out of control, struck the guardrail, and came to a total halt. Shortly after, a second driver hit the barriers on the Limassol–Nicosia highway near the Ayia Varvara exit under similar circumstances.

Despite the impact in both cases, authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported. Both vehicles were immobilised at the scene, but police have since cleared the wreckage, and traffic is now flowing normally.

Traffic officials are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution, as heavy rain continues to create dangerous driving conditions across various sections of the island’s highway network.
