A 165,000 square metre marina development with capacity for 1,000 vessels could finally break ground in Paphos after decades, with tender results expected early next year.
The Deputy Ministry of Tourism launched an expression of interest on 17 September for the marina at Potima in Kissonerga – a project that has been re-announced multiple times over the decades only to stall in legal procedures.
This time, Paphos stakeholders hope the process will complete without further delays, allowing the long-awaited development to move forward.
President Nikos Christodoulides called the marina a landmark project that will establish Paphos as a top maritime and tourism destination during a recent presentation on major provincial developments.
The marina will accommodate 1,000 recreational vessels, with berths accounting for 70-80% of capacity and dry storage for the remainder across maritime and land zones.
The tender also covers residential and commercial development, potentially including hotels and cruise ship facilities.
The government is using a two-phase open process: the current expression of interest phase followed by a call for proposals.
Local authorities view the project as critical for tourism, economic and commercial development. It will strengthen the economy, create jobs and upgrade Paphos’s tourism offering, Christodoulides said.
