Isolated storms and mountain snow forecast for Monday

The Department of Meteorology has forecast unsettled conditions for Monday, with isolated rain, thunderstorms, and a possibility of snow in the highest peaks as a cold front moves across the Republic.

While the day will begin with partial cloud cover, rain and isolated storms are expected to develop primarily during the afternoon hours.

Residents in the Troodos mountains should prepare for sleet or snow in the higher elevations.

Temperatures are expected to reach 18°C inland, approximately 20°C along the coast, and 10°C in the higher mountain regions.

Maritime and wind conditions

Winds will blow from the northeast to southeast, remaining light to locally moderate at three to four Beaufort.

Sea conditions are forecast to be smooth to slight, becoming locally moderate in some areas.

By Monday night, the weather will remain predominantly cloudy with further local showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The unstable weather pattern is set to continue through the middle of the week:

Tuesday: Conditions will remain partly cloudy with intermittent rain and isolated thunderstorms. Sleet or snow remains possible on the highest peaks.

Wednesday and Thursday: Isolated showers are expected to persist, though these will primarily be concentrated in the mountain districts.

Meteorologists noted that temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the next three days, remaining slightly above the seasonal average for late December.
