Police hunt barbershop owner after brutal coffee shop stabbing

Limassol CID investigators are pouring resources into a manhunt following yesterday’s attempted murder in the city centre. Officers have swarmed the busy Anexartisias shopping district to carry out intensive searches and gather evidence from the scene. The brutal attack unfolded during the evening rush hour while dozens of shoppers and bystanders filled the surrounding streets.

They are hunting a 30-year-old foreign national following a violent ambush outside a coffee shop on Wednesday evening.

Three men jumped a 36-year-old victim at the junction of Anexartisias and Athinon streets around 7:00 pm. Two attackers pinned the man down using Taser-like stun guns while a third stabbed him in the back with a sharp object. Paramedics rushed the victim to a private hospital in Limassol where he remains in critical condition with a wound to his left shoulder blade.

Tleis owns a barbershop on Anexartisias Street, only metres from the scene of the attack. Both the victim and the suspect have previous records with the police, according to «philenews».

Violence previously flared at this specific barbershop in August 2020. During that earlier brawl, a young man was shot in the neck and left in serious condition.

Detectives have seized CCTV footage from shops and surrounding buildings to identify the remaining attackers. Forensic teams are also processing evidence gathered at the scene. While police have secured an arrest warrant for Tleis, the motive for the stabbing remains unknown.
