A series of small seismic tremors struck the Pissouri area in the early hours of Thursday following a 3.6-magnitude earthquake felt on Wednesday, the Geological Survey Department said.
According to a statement, the department’s seismological network recorded an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale at 7:36pm on Wednesday, with its epicentre in the Pissouri area, 30 kilometres west of Limassol, at a focal depth of 15 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt mainly in the Paphos and Limassol districts, and smaller tremors have since been recorded in the same area.
The largest of these, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 4:20am on Thursday and was felt locally in the area.
According to initial estimates from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, a 2.9-magnitude tremor was also recorded around 4:20am, with its epicentre located 36 kilometres west of Limassol at a focal depth of 19 kilometres.
Wednesday evening’s earthquake measured 3.9 on the Richter scale, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, in the same area.
