New earthquake rattles Cyprus in the early hours of Thursday

A fresh earthquake struck Cyprus in the early hours of this morning, following the tremor that shook the island yesterday afternoon.

According to initial estimates from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the tremor measured 2.9 on the Richter scale and was recorded around 4:20am.

The earthquake’s epicentre was located 36 kilometres west of Limassol at a focal depth of 19 kilometres.

Yesterday around 7:00pm, another seismic tremor measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck in the same area.
