Snow returns to Troodos this weekend as temperatures set for drop

Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos this weekend as temperatures drop across Cyprus, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The forecast comes as the island braces for unsettled weather from Friday onwards, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected through the weekend. Snow or sleet is possible on Saturday night and Sunday on Troodos’s highest peaks.

Tonight will be partly to mainly cloudy at times with isolated light showers possible. Winds will blow mainly northerly to northeasterly, light to moderate, Force 3 to 4. The sea will be smooth to slight.

Temperatures will fall to 11°C inland, around 14°C on the coast and 6°C in the higher mountains.

Thursday will see partly to mainly cloudy conditions with isolated showers possible. Winds will blow mainly northeasterly to southeasterly, light to moderate, Force 3 to 4, temporarily reaching strong Force 4 to 5 in windward areas. The sea will be slight to rather rough, becoming rough locally in windward areas. Temperatures will rise to around 23°C inland and on the coast, and 13°C in the higher mountains.

Friday will be partly cloudy with isolated showers expected, whilst local showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in the evening.

Saturday will be partly to mainly cloudy, particularly after midday when local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Snow or sleet is possible on the highest Troodos peaks overnight.

Sunday will see partly to mainly cloudy conditions with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Snow or sleet remains possible on the highest Troodos peaks.

Temperatures will rise slightly on Friday before dropping over the weekend to hover near seasonal averages.
