Police in Larnaca launched an investigation after a man discovered a pistol in a suitcase belonging to a deceased relative and immediately handed it over to authorities.
During a subsequent search of the same suitcase, the man found two hand grenades, a quantity of explosive material, a detonator and 84 rounds of ammunition.
Police cordoned off the scene for examination, whilst Larnaca CID is investigating the case to determine the origin and purpose of the weapons cache.
